Tip 1: Be sure to twist random areas of your hair every once in a while. Instead of doing them from the roots however, start twisting from the end up to give you something known as freeform dreads. You need to have patience though! Growing freeform dreads can take up to a year or more to replicate, but will naturally lock up on it’s own and much faster as well if you refrain from combing it. Treat, wash and condition your hair like you normally would, but be sure to keep those meddling fingers out from your dreadlocks during this process!

Tip 2: Re-twist your hair every 3 weeks! Maintain doing half twists and pushing up on the sides of your dreadlocks constantly to get your hair to lock up together –but to avoid any excess frizz. Products are optional, but not necessary! For instance, apply a a bit of hair gel gel on your fingers and lather it onto the strand of hair. Note that the thicker the hair strand the better! Twist these strands together to keep them locked and secure them with elastic bands to hold them in place. If hair gel isn’t right up your alley, substituting it with beeswax will also do the trick.

Tip 3: This method is a little complicated, but if done right can provide excellent results! Start by growing your hair out as well as buying a sponge from any beauty store. Continue to shampoo your hair like 1-2 times a week and condition every other day. Making sure that your hair is still damp, rub in some hair gel/beeswax to your strands, proceeding to swirl the sponge in your hair in a clockwise motion. Twist one or more strands together for about 2 minutes and repeat this process for another 5-6 months. This process automatically locks your strands together –creating that perfect Donald Glover look effortlessly!
